After watching this thread quietly, I thought I would throw my two cents worth in here. We have used VMWare workstation as a single solution for many of the organizations that I have worked with over the years and I have had them procure licenses as part of the consulting fee to cover my time. However, with many of the issues now coming to light and the disregard for the user community, I guess its time to break with VMWare and move to HyperV for Windows and find a diff tool for linux and NonWindows.
There are a few free albeit not as robust, but now, certainly worth revisiting virtual platforms. I suppose it's time to revisit those since it is obvious VMWare is driving us for these features towards the much more expensive product line.
